That's why we're excited to announce that we now accept patients using the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). This partnership with CDCP opens up a world of possibilities, allowing us to offer our wide range ofA pair of friends laughing comprehensive dental services to all patients, ensuring they receive the best possible care to protect their smiles and dental health. 

Am I Eligible for CDCP?

There are a few ways you may be eligible to receive CDCP benefits:

  • You don't currently have dental insurance and have a household income of less than $90,000 per year
  • You are a senior aged 65 or older
  • You are a child under the age of 18
  • You are an adult with a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate

To qualify for CDCP, you also can't have access to dental benefits through a student organization, employer, or pension benefits. You can contact Service Canada if you have questions about eligibility for CDCP.

Yes. Your Canadian Dental Care Plan benefits should be renewed each year to ensure you remain eligible. June 1st is the deadline for renewing CDCP benefits in Newmarket. 

Your coverage ended on June 30th if you didn't renew; however, you can submit a new application. There will be coverage gaps that you will be responsible for until it is reinstated. If you have dental treatments during the gap period, you will not have coverage or be reimbursed retroactively. 

You should confirm that your coverage is active before seeking dental treatment or services. It's also important to note that after renewal, your co-payment level may change.

The Canadian Dental Care Plan for children covers kids under 18. As with adults, levels of coverage are based on the family's income.

For example, coverage is 100 percent for families who make under $70,000 per year. Between the income levels of $70,000 to $89,999, 40 to 60 percent is covered, so some families may incur out-of-pocket expenses for their dental treatment.

Understanding CDCP Coverage

Here are some of the CDCP benefits for children:

  • Preventive Care — Includes teeth cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants
  • Diagnostic Care — Includes dental exams and x-rays
  • Restorative Care — Includes stainless steel crowns and dental fillings for baby teeth
  • Endodontic Care — Includes pulpotomies, pulpectomies, and root canal treatment
  • Oral Surgery — Tooth extraction
  • Anesthesia — Includes general anesthesia if preauthorized

Some treatment procedures may require preauthorization. Orthodontic treatment is generally not covered under CDCP benefits, unless there is a medical need.

Understanding CDCP Coverage

CDCP is an excellent tool for helping defray the cost of dental care; however, there are some important parameters to understand. CDCP covers a portion of dental expenses, not the total cost of care. At Smilehaus Newmarket, we believe in transparency. Some treatment procedures may require preauthorization, which means that we will submit your treatment needs to CDCP. They will then determine the amount of coverage you'll receive and your out-of-pocket expense, ensuring you are fully informed about your dental care costs every step of the way.  

The CDCP benefit period covers 12 months—from July 1st to June 30th, and patients are reassessed each year to ensure their eligibility.
