Sedation Dentistry

Yes, sedation dentistry is safe when administered by trained professionals following proper protocols. At Smilehaus Newmarket, patient safety is our top priority, and we take extensive precautions to ensure every sedation experience is both comfortable and secure.

Our Sedation Safety Protocols

Before recommending sedation, we thoroughly review your complete medical history, current medications, and health conditions that might affect sedation safety. This careful screening helps us determine which sedation option is safest and most appropriate for your specific situation.

Sedation Training and Credentials

Our dentists who provide sedation have received extensive specialized training in sedation techniques, patient monitoring, and emergency management. Dr. Joo is specifically trained and licensed to administer IV sedation safely in our office.

Sedation Levels and Safety Considerations

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is the mildest form of sedation with an excellent safety record. The effects wear off within minutes, and you can drive yourself home.

IV sedation requires more careful monitoring and someone to drive you home, but remains very safe under proper supervision.

Serious complications from dental sedation are extremely rare, especially when proper screening, monitoring, and trained professionals are involved.

We Welcome Your Questions

If you have specific health concerns or questions, we encourage you to discuss them with our team during your consultation. We'll explain exactly how we'll keep you safe and comfortable throughout your procedure.

Call Smilehaus Newmarket at (365) 909 3999 to discuss sedation options for your dental treatment. We serve patients throughout Newmarket, East Gwillimbury, Aurora, and surrounding communities.

You can drive after dental sedation with nitrous oxide (laughing gas). If you have IV sedation, it is not safe for you to drive afterward, and you will need to arrange transportation.

Understanding Dental Sedation in Newmarket, ON

At Smilehaus Newmarket, we offer two types of sedation at our clinic:

  • Nitrous Oxide — Laughing gas is delivered through an inhalation mask worn throughout your procedure. It is safe for adults and children to use nitrous oxide during their dental procedures. Helps "take the edge off" for people who experience dental fear or anxiety.
  • IV Sedation — Delivered intravenously. Dr. Joo is licensed to provide IV sedation and monitors your vital signs and heart rate throughout the procedure. He can adjust the medication as needed. Patients typically feel as if they are asleep, yet remain responsive during their treatment.

Would Sedation Dentistry Benefit You?

Sedation dentistry is ideal for patients with these needs:

  • They have an extensive treatment plan they want to complete during one visit
